The Scarlet Pimpernel Musical

In 1997 a Broadway musical based on Baroness Orczy's book, The Scarlet Pimpernel, was composed by Frank Wildhorn and written by Nan Knighton. The musical had its world premier at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway on 7th October 1997 and officially opened on 9th November. It starred Douglas Sills as Sir Percy Blakeney, Christine Andreas as Marguerite Blakeney, Terrence Mann as Citizen Chauvelin and James Bohanek as Armand St. Just. By the spring of 1998, bookings weren't living up to expectations and it looked like the show might close. The show's fan base, however, had different ideas. They spread "the word" about the production via email and word of mouth and the show's fortunes changed. (read about this) Since then it has been a huge success, touring provincial America and the world.

The Siena Players are presenting a version of The Scarlet Pimpernel Musical from 17-17 November, 2013. The production will be held in the McBride Hall at 9700 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, Passadena, in the United States. Tickets go on sale 14 October and cost $10-12. Bookings: 215-284-8680.

A highlight of the musical is the brilliant stage designs by the master set designer, Richard Finkelstein.
